Please accept my condolences for your loss. Mr. Glidden was both a Phys-Ed teacher and a basketball coach of mine several times during my high school career at ELSS in the late 80's. He sure did not like it when we girls failed to give heed to his plans/plays on the court....as a teacher now, I better understand that frustration, and truly appreciate the effort he put forth to encourage us to be the best we could be. His outbursts were legendary, but we sure learned quickly! I can still picture him running up the court - blue polyesters, golf shirt and running shoes - always ready to play! May Scrubby rest in peace, and may his family take comfort in knowing that he had such a lasting impact on so many throughout his lifetime!

To Mr. Glidden's family, we are so sorry to hear that Mr. Glidden has passed away. I never had him as a coach or a teacher when I attended East Lambton, but my husband Jim did. He would often talk about what Scrubby would make him do, during gym class if he spoke out of turn, such as running around the block four times. We actually were talking about Mr. Glidden on Monday and then saw his obituary the next day. What a shock that was. He was an icon at ELSS and he brought much happiness to the students and staff there. A few years back, I had the honour of running into him and his wife at the Watford United Church Roast beef dinner. He still looked the same and his smile was one that you will never forget. He left such a great imprint on our lives during our time at ELSS. Rest in peace Mr. Glidden. You were one of a kind. Love Shelley(Hollingsworth) and Jim Holbrook

Mr. Glidden was such a beloved teacher at ELSS. I always had a passion for sports but under his guidance my love of sports grew, I played new ones and I learned many more skills. My high school experience would not have been nearly as rich without Mr. Glidden as a teacher and coach. He and I would sometimes square off at practice and see who could sink the most free throws. It was so cool that he coached us but also participated. As he fostered such a love of sports, I became a sports journalist and was fortunate to cover international sporting events. That wouldn't have happened if I hadn't learned so much about sports from Mr. Glidden. He and my father taught together for awhile at ELSS. When my father passed away, he came to the funeral home. It was so nice to see him and other teachers from the best high school in the country. Rest in Peace Bobby G. Can't wait to to have another free throw contest with you some day up yonder.

My sincerest condolences to Mr. Glidden's family. He encouraged me to "leave my athletic mark" at ELSS for which I am forever grateful. The dedication and time he spent at the school did not go unnoticed. I hope your family finds comfort knowing the impact he had on generations of students at ELSS.

Mr. Glidden was our basketball coach my entire high school career and put up with a lot from all of us. He fostered my love of basketball and encouraged me to continue playing in university, which meant a great deal to me. Once becoming a teacher, I realized even more the amount of time and effort he placed into coaching, driving, paperwork and supporting us. Always involved, always patient and an ELSS legend. The world lost a great one. A life well lived....thinking of you all. Thanks Bobby G.

My deepest sympathies to the family. Mr Glidden inspired me to take up teaching and coaching. It was not until I began coaching high school sports that I gained a full appreciation of this special person, and the time spent running practice, attending meetings, riding busses, and doing all of the paperwork required. Mr Glidden did not coach for the glory of winning championships, but to allow kids to participate. He was a big part of my high school experience but never asked for anything in return. Thanks Coach.

I am so sad to learn of Bob’s passing. I first knew him as Mr. Glidden when I was a student at ELSS. I never excelled in athletics, but always appreciated his continued encouragement and support of students both in the classroom and in extracurricular activities. Years later, I had the pleasure of working with Bob as a colleague at ELSS. Bob was not only a dedicated teacher, he was a wonderful co-worker! Bob spent many hours planning events and fundraising to provide his students the opportunity to compete in numerous sports. Bob was a generous and thoughtful man, and every Christmas I think of Bob when I assemble my Christmas Village. This year, it will shine extra brightly in his memory.
Sending my sincere condolences to Lorraine, Geofrey, Tracy and the entire family.
Sincerely,
Lorie (Vince) Vandeschoot

I played basketball at ELSS in the late seventies and Mr. Glidden was our coach. He committed so much of his own time to extracurricular activities that is so rare now. We were so lucky to have a teacher like that. My sincere condolences to his family.

Sending my deepest condolences to Bob's family and loved ones. I have so many fond memories of spending a lot of time with Bob in P.E. and on several sports teams at ELSS. He fostered my love of sports and coached me to be able to go on and play basketball in college. Bob was a hard working and devoted coach. Some of my best high school moments are playing on one of his teams. We had many laughs riding to competitions in the back of his station wagon and convincing him to take a bunch of teen age girls to McDonald's for dinner after our games. Rest in peace Bob.

To the family of Mr. Glidden. I was very sad to hear about Bob’s passing. Mr Glidden ( Bobby G) was very influential and he made a lasting impact on my high school years at ELSS. He is one of the reasons why I wanted to be a teacher. Mr.Glidden was always positive, encouraging and knew how to motivate you.
I have so many fond memories and I would like to share one.
It was September and I was starting grade 11. Over the summer I started playing a lot of tennis. I asked Mr Glidden if I could play tennis in LSSAA. He said maybe, but he would need to evaluate my skill level before going through all the paper work to allow me to play. I said , if I can win a set will you consider it? The next thing I know I am playing tennis after school against my Phys Ed Teacher. I ended winning the set 6-1. Two days later Mr. Glidden stopped me in the hall and told me that he had entered me in the tournament and that I was the first student from Watford to do this.
I played and it was an amazing experience. He made the effort for me and I have never forgotten his kind gesture.
He was a great teacher but more importantly he was an even greater person.
My sincere condolences.
