To Robert, Donald and families, My condolences to you regarding the passing of John. I fondly remember visiting your farm with my Mom, Sharon and my brothers, Steven and Fred. I so enjoyed visiting with your parents and thoroughly marveled at John's gardens. He had an incredible imagination with this train set up and the castles, ships and forts he built in the gardens. I watched the funeral service with Dad. Katie did a brilliant job with her eulogy; John was definitely humble and kind. I know he will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him, however I am comforted knowing he will be with family. Sincere sympathy, Jennifer L. Moore (Sharon and Ross' daughter)

Robert and Donald and families. My Condolences on Johns passing, Your Dad & Mom and John are rejoicing! I am Fred & Helen Wilsons Daughter from Watford Baptist Church. To Robert, Donald and families, Heartfelt sympathy to you regarding the passing of John. We lived at the Parker farm on the same side of the 12th two farms down. We had many connections with the Shirley family over the years: your father helped my grandfather with farm chores when he was a teenager. My Uncle Murray worked for your Dad after this. We got our eggs from you as long as you had hens. My grandmother attended Women's Institute with your mother and secured a ride home from meetings. I used to drop in to see your parents and John after we left the farm. I was always impressed with the standard of farming knowledge that came out of the Shirley household. I think I had a couple skating opportunities at that big pond that you had. I used to call John occasionally in later years - we always had a great coversation. For many years, John was a regular customer of mine at the health food store. He knew exactly which supplements he wanted and I did my best to keep them in stock. John was always cheerful and happy to give me exact measurements of rainfall. (smile) He was a good man and will be missed!

Always enjoyed summer picnics and Christmas gatherings with the Shirley cousins. John was great fun and had a wonderful sense of humour. He built his own garden wonderland complete with ponds, bridges and forts. Always working at something new. In later years, he was always ready for a good visit when we would drop in to see him.
