John was a excellent father and a caring Opa to my wife and daughter. In my time living with John, we shared many memories and experiences. He helped teach me how to change the oil in my car, and taught me other games and activities.
Me and John would occasionally enjoy a game of Chess. He was clearly a master at the game, and understood it at an extreme level. To this day, he remains undefeated against me. Here's to you, unofficial grandmaster of Canada! And thank you for everything.

Dad and I always had a special bond. We had a lot of common interests and in my adult life we were able to spend a lot of time together because for several hours a week we would go on long nature walks together. We would discuss politics, philosophy and a lot of subject matters on these walks. One particular walk I shared my fear of dying to my dad. I was filled with existential dread and it was weighing on my mind heavily. My dad told me not to worry, that is something people have been doing since the dawn of life. He said his father died and so did his father before him. I told him that wasn’t very comforting, so he told me, “if you believe there is meaning in life then you must believe there is meaning in death too.” The friendship my dad and I had is something that will never be able to be replaced, but I know he’s found his meaning even in death. Love you eternally, dad. Until I see you again…
