Obituary of Elizabeth Watson
Watson, Elizabeth Irene (née McEvoy)
On Thursday, April 28, 2011, Elizabeth (McEvoy) Watson of Forest, a loving wife, mother, Nan, mother-in-law and friend, found peace and freedom after a number of years of declining health, at the age of 68 years. A proud Newfoundlander and native of St. John's, Elizabeth ("Liz" to her many friends) was the daughter of the late John Bernard and Olive McEvoy, and was predeceased by her two elder sisters, Stella Oliver and Bernie Crofton (both of the United States). For 43 years Elizabeth was a loving and devoted wife to Keith Watson of Forest, and was the loving mother of Father Murray Watson of London, Heather (Greg) Taylor of Sarnia, Jennifer Watson and her friend Jeff Armstrong of Forest, and Susan (Kevin) Buchanan of Georgetown. She was also a much-loved Nan to Katie-Lyn Watson, Owen Taylor and Brooke Buchanan, a beloved matriarch to her extended family in the United States, and a cherished and loyal friend to many people in Newfoundland, Ontario and abroad. She was a generous, kind and faith-filled woman, deeply proud of her family, passionate in her opinions, and committed to her community--especially to the less fortunate and needy, for whom she always demonstrated particular attentiveness and compassion. Her sudden death at Bluewater Health Centre in Sarnia has left a great hole in the hearts of her family and friends, but she will be remembered with much love, with laughter and with profound gratitude for all that she gave to so many people for so many years, and for the values she taught so well through her own personal example. She leaves a wonderful legacy that we will honour and do our best to perpetuate. Visitation will be held at the FOREST CHAPEL of DENNING FUNERAL DIRECTORS on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 4th at 11am at St. Christopher's Roman Catholic Church in Forest, Ontario (68 Union St.). Cremation to follow. All are invited to attend a Celebration of life gathering at the Kimball Hall in Forest from 1-5pm on Wednesday, May 4th following the Funeral Mass. Donations in Elizabeth's memory may be made to the following charities, or to a charity of your choice: Save A Family Plan (London, Ontario; safp.org), or Contact House Food Bank (Forest, Ontario). Donations and condolences may be left online at www.denningfuneralhome.com .
