My condolences to the family of Gerry Brown. I was Gerry's mail lady for 20 years and always enjoyed our little chats at the mailbox. He was always warm and friendly and full of interesting stories.

What sad news to hear that Gerry has passed. When I think of Gerry Brown I think of a gentleman in the truest sense of that word. He was always so cheerful and was never anything but kind and patient with me. I’ll particularly remember his generous but still pointed sense of humor. His patriotism and the pride he took in his Navy service had a strong effect on me as a boy, as did his rather idiosyncratic way with language. I still chuckle when I hear myself saying “I don’t give a tinker’s damn”--an expression that immediately takes me back to warm summer afternoons in Ipperwash sitting on the cottage porch with Gerry and my Grandmother talking over what ever happened to be in the newspaper that day or just sipping soda (beer, of course, for Gerry) and watching the squirrels. He was in every respect a lovely and loving person and I consider myself blessed to have known him. I would like to offer my deepest condolences to Gerry’s family and many friends.

The times we spent with Gerry stand out in our memory. He treated us all like we were his family and was always welcoming when we would visit. I found his stories of the war and time he spent in the Canadian Navy fascinating. I remember an afternoon spent with Gerry like it was yesterday, watching The Cruel Sea and listening as he explained life on Corvette while hunting for submarines in the north Atlantic. Every time I flip through a book on the war, I look for a photo of the HMCS Battleford and tell my kids “Gerry was on this ship!”. Our family will miss him dearly on their behalf I wish Gerry’s family the best in this time of sorrow, thank you for the stories and kindness over the years. The Petrics.

How sad I was to hear of Gerry's passing but also very happy that I took the time to drop in to see him this past Thursday. Gerry was a wonderful man who always had a smile & hug for me. One of my favourite Vets! He will be missed by all who knew him.
