Obituary of Alice Paterson
PATERSON, Alice Lenore - Passed away peacefully at Beattie Haven Retirement Community, Wardsville on Thursday, January 20, 2011 in her 82nd year. Special thanks to the caregivers of Beattie Haven for their skills and dedication.
Survived by her sons, John Alexander Paton (Mary Rusbridge) and Cameron Glenn Paton and sister Nina Hurdle (Edgar). Predeceased by husbands Donald James Paterson and Malcolm Alexander (Sandy) Paton and brothers and sisters Bruce Dill (Florence), Florence Moore (Howard), Isabel Ripley (Jack), Gladys Shipley (Earl), Frank Dill (survived by Isabella), Alma Leitch (Archie) and Elva Pattison (survived by Loreen (Pat)). Alice will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A life-long resident of Rodney and Aldborough Township, Alice graduated as class valedictorian from high school and received a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Western Ontario in 1975. She retired as an elementary school teacher with the Kent County Board of Education in 1980. Alice was a member of St. John's Presbyterian Church in Rodney and participated in several community activities, including the Rodney Agricultural Fair Board, West Elgin Genealogical and Historical Society and Board of Directors of the Tyrconnell Heritage Society (Backus Page House).
Alice enjoyed travelling throughout Canada and was grateful for the opportunity to see some of the great cities of the world: New York City, London, Edinburgh, Paris and Rome. One of her proudest, recent achievements was to complete this past summer a book on the history of her parents, William and Lillie (Campbell) Dill, from their ancestors' emigration to Canada in the early 1800's to their many descendants of today.
Relatives and friends will be received at Denning Funeral Directors, Rodney Chapel, 212 Furnival Rd., Rodney, on Sunday, Jan. 23rd, 2011 from 2 to 4 pm and from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Monday at 1:30 pm. Interment to follow at Rodney Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Beattie Haven Retirement Community. Condolences and donations may be left at www.denningfuneralhome.com or (519 785-0810).
