Obituary of Maria Hogervorst

Peacefully, with family at her side, in her 77th year, Maria Gerarda (Straatman) Hogervorst passed away on Friday, February 26, 2010, at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital. Mary was the beloved wife and best friend of the late Mathew Hogervorst (1997). She was loved by her children, Tony and Joanne Hogervorst of Watford, Pat and Jim Vafiades of London, Frank and Lorri Hogervorst of Ailsa Craig and Ben and Jenny Hogervorst of Lucknow. Mary was so proud of her 13 grandchildren, Amy, Eric, John, Simon (& Marie Claire) and MaryAnn Hogervorst, Valerie (& Josh) Barath, Nick (& Larissa) Vafiades, Jennifer, Brian and Stephen Hogervorst and Chris (& Aiden), Katherine and Kimberly Hogervorst. Dear sister of Gerry and Annie Straatman, Herman and Joanne Straatman, Theresa and Victor Soetemans, Nellie and Bill Vanderburgt, Harry and Elly Straatman, Tony and Rita Straatman, Lina Straatman and Elsie and Alfonse Couwenburg. Dear Sister in law of Peter Hogervorst, Bep Ruigt, Arend and Corrie Hogervorst, Marie Hogervorst, Toos VandeHelm, Peter and Theresa VandeBoomen and Father Rudi Hogervorst. Predeceased by parents, Johanna and Anthony Straatman, brother Leo Straatman, Brothers- In- Law Arie Ruigt, Koos Hogervorst, Aad VandeHelm, John Vandermeer and Sisters-in-law Tini Hogervorst and Rini Vandermeer. Mary is also remembered by many cousins, nieces and nephews and friends. Mary also enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, particularly playing cards. She belonged to a number of groups played several days each week, with her brothers and sisters, at the Watford Friendship Center, Taxandria and with the 'Wednesday' ladies group. Besides cards, she also loved 'Rumicup' which she often played with her grandchildren. She was a devout member of her parish, member and past president of the CWL and most of all, loved the Rosary. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends, especially her grandchildren who have been a cherished part of her life for so many years. Visitors were received at the WATFORD CHAPEL OF DENNING FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 232 Warwick St., Watford on Sunday, February 28th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Help of Christians, 432 Victoria St, Watford. Interment in Our Lady Help of Christian's Roman Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations in Mary's memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Sarnia Red Cross Home Care.
