I have so many fond memories of living next for to Jean, Frank and Julie Evans on Bel Aire Drive in Sarnia when I was a teenager. It was aways fun going to their house. Jean always had something interesting to talk about and I know she was a good friend to my Mom in later years as well. Julie, I send you and your family my sincere condolences. Sincere condolescences go out to you, Julie, and your immediate family. Though short in statue (standing on a stool so as not to be overshadowed by some of her taller students on picture day, or almost always being photographed in high heels), your mom was definitely a grand old dame in the style of a Helen Mirren or a Judi Dench. Yes, she was dignified and proper, always dressed to the ninth, but behind those twinkling eyes lurked a mischievous, very much alive spirit as well. She loved life, people, her home, and everything the world had to offer. My fondest memories will always be of visiting her at Twin Lakes or talking on the phone for an hour or two. She loved to reminisce! One day we were going through her beautiful photo album and we zeroed in on a tattered picture of a horse drawn sleigh and all of her siblings. She was able to pick out every one, and even name the horse, Jeb, if my memory serves me correctly. I told her it was amazing that she could remember its name but then I asked if she remembered the dog's name as well. Without a moment's hesitation she replied, "Rover." I said, "Are you sure?!" She replied, with a big smile, "Aren't they all called that." Aunt Jean loved to tell stories and if some of the details were a little faded she didn't hesitate to embellish, which she didn't deny. That just made for a more interesting account of our past and I'll always be thankful for hearing her wonderful recollections.

Jean was my teacher at S.S. # 15 from the last part of grade one through grade five. One of the memories of her was when a photographer came to the school to take a picture of those attending. I was in about grade three at the time. Not wanting to be overshadowed by the height of the older pupils in the school, she stood on a stool when the picture was taken. Not only was Jean my teacher but she attended public school with my father, Ivan Frayne, and roomed with my mother Thelma Frayne during the time they attended high school in Forest.
Later, I met Jean at a school in Sarnia where she taught. At that time I was teaching myself. Part of our in-service training included touring the school where she taught.
Sympathy wishes are extended to Julie as well as all of the family.
