My condolences to Joan and family.....A true professional, humble and always prepared, Alf was a mentor to many of the sales executives and leaders in the paper industry. He joined Coast Paper’s Toronto team when it was a young and set an example of organization, integrity and hard-work to which all aspired. I was honored to have Alf as an industry colleague and am left with many fond memories.

The story that sticks into my mind was the time a bunch of them went out for Christmas celebrations. It was Dec 1985 and we had just moved to Mississauga. The guys went out to lunch and carried over to dinner. There was a terrible snowstorm and they couldn't get a cab. Alf made his way home by walking. His neighbor passed him and didn't offer him a ride home. He couldn't recognize him because he looked like the abominable snowman

My deepest sympathies to Joan and all of Alf's family. All of us from the "Allforms" gang of print folks in the Toronto area are so very saddened with this loss. Alf lived a life full of love, dedication, humour and basic hard work, built on solid relationships with people...for many, many years. He and Joan fought defiantly to overcome pancreatic cancer. They loved life and fought an amazing fight, to overcome and win more time together in love, peace, joy and serenity in Ipperwash. We will always appreciate Alf's positive attitude and humour through thick and thin. Life lessons for all. 1st grandchild and December Baby Lily is so gorgeous, and we are very thankful that Alf was so thrilled and got to enjoy precious time with this new little life at Christmas 2013! We are all so very blessed to have crossed paths with this true gentle giant... May Alf now rest in peace, and his Spirit live on eternally in our hearts! With love, Marg (Sparky)Bartlett Bala and Oakville, ON

My thoughts and prayers go out the Alfreds family at this most difficult time. It has probably been more than 50 years since I had seen Alfred, but I have many fond memories of times spent with the family on the old family farm in Poplar Hill. I would like to especially be remembered to John and Don and to send my condolences. Alfred was named after my father.
