A few years ago, while living in Wyoming, our family was blessed to be introduced to a very special family from the Watford area. They were the Woodfinden family, and we were quickly pulled into the arms of a warm and true friendship. And even when we moved, the friendship remained unchanged.
Every year around Christmas, when we lived in Ontario, our families had a tradition. We would pick whatever new Christmas movie was playing at the theatre and the ten of us would go and see it. Didn't matter if it was childish or what was going on, that night was special. We always ended up at a Timmies afterwards and were so loud we turned heads. Alan was a huge part of that. He was always laughing and smiling, no matter the joke. He would make a face and do that muppet like laugh, even if just to make one of us kids giggle.
Or the time our mother was cooking a very large turkey. Like huge. To the point that the bird had to go into the oven early in the morning. The bird was apparently a particularly juicy one, and when mom went back to bed, it overflowed. Our retriever thought it was Christmas! Licked it up, rolled in it, you can imagine. So mom comes downstairs to this crazy mess and is understandably upset, oh the muttering that went on. And just as she is finishing cleaning it up and it quite frustrated with the situation, who walks in the door but Alan and Darlene. I've never seen anger diffused quite that fast. They came bearing Timmies and hugs and giggles over the ridiculous turkey.
Dar, Sammy, Les & Katie. We love you and are thinking about you, we can't believe this happened. We have made such wonderful memories with your family, we couldn't resist sharing. We are so very fortunate to have had time with you all this summer, it was amazing to have gotten to see you and spend some time with you all. John's hearing all these wonderful memories through us and we're getting a chance to relive them all. He's never sure what all the noise was about, but Alan would only smile and tell him he will get used to it. Thank you for being such a wonderful part of our family, Alan was an amazing person and will be so missed.
We only hope that we can be nearly as amazing as Alan was, he was honest, kind, hard working and generous, not to mention that he had a heart that inspired all of us to be better people. We look forward to creating many, many more happy memories with your family.

So incredibly sorry to hear the news of Al's passing. He would always say hi even from across the street whenever I went uptown to do errands. Even if he was driving, he would always wave. Cindy and I are shocked to learn of this heart-breaking loss.
There are no words to express our sorrow.
Alan was always such a gentleman and handled himself with dignity and diplomacy. (not always easy in the farming world).
When I last talked to him he was reminiscing about registering the dairy herd from Winding Brook Farm when Carl purchased them. He was so gracious in the way he spoke of my late father.
