Obituary of Lonnie Charles Smith
SMITH: Lonnie Charles
Peacefully, following a courageous battle with cancer, Lonnie Charles Smith passed away on June 28, 2016 at age 54. Much beloved husband and partner for over 25 years of Beth Wilbur-Smith. Adored and cherished father of Carissa (Cole Young) and Kiera. Treasured son of Ruth and Robert Smith of Digby, N.S. Much loved brother of Carolyn (Ronnie) McNeill of Glacé Bay, N.S. and Clint (Janet) Smith of Windsor, ON. Also loved son-in-law of Velma and Wayne Wilbur and brother-in-law to Jeff (Karen) Wilbur and Tricia (Troy Carlson) Bokor. Missed by nieces and nephews David (Christina), Danny (Marie), Sarah (Sam), Rachel (Tom), Jevon (Joanna), Erin, Tyler, Claudia, Myla, Lela and Zavier.
The consummate family man, Lonnie devoted much time and energy to his family; his daughters will be part of his legacy. He was an avid car enthusiast who took pride in doing his own repairs. He never met a dollar he didn't want to save. The favourite I.T. guy to many, his ideas and expertise were sought by others in his personal and professional life. Problem solving was as natural to him as breathing, but he insisted on efficient and pragmatic solutions at all times. His extensive knowledge of Ted talks, podcasts and audio books was willingly shared. Most recently, he enjoyed coaching his team of I.T. professionals at Startech.com. Lonnie was pleased to have joined the Board of Directors for St. Joseph's Hospital in 2015. Throughout his cancer journey, he was supported and encouraged by many family members, friends, neighbours and colleagues. Spearheaded by his co-workers at Startech.com, Team Lonnie and Team Lonnie Too raised $25000 for the Brain Tumour Foundation at their recent walk.
Visitation will be held at DENNING’S OF WATFORD on Sunday, July 3rd, 2016 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Alvinston Community Centre on Monday, July 4th, 2016 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joseph's Hospice, Sarnia or the Brain Tumour Foundation would be appreciated. Condolences and donations may be left online at www.denning.ca
