The past few days have been difficult.
I want to extend my condolences to Captain Jan Joosten’s family as well as share a few thoughts. I have known Jan for a short 4ish years but I always found him welcoming, willing to invite me for golf and other events and for that I will always be thankful and appreciative. The texts I receive to have me out for lunch and the invites to numerous other events, those couple of statements really sum up Jan's personality…… friendly, inviting and welcoming.
As an LFD Captain, he performed his duties quietly, diligently and competently. He was always approachable and engaged in the fire service, on the emergency scene and on the community side as well.
As I sit here and reflect, Jan always put a smile on my face and I truly will miss him.

My sincere condolences to all of the Joosten families, especially Heather, Janessa, and Jacob, Pete and Sue, and to the Firefighting Community on your loss of Jan. He will certainly be missed in our community for all of his special fundraising events as they were always well organized and successful and for taking care of the equipment loaned to those in need from the Optimist Club. I really appreciated that when my husband was ill. I didnt even realize all of the things he did in his "spare time" but im sure he was great at all of it. As the saying goes "if you want something done, ask a busy person" and he certainly fit that saying. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time and Heather if you need anything, please dont hesitate to ask.

To Heather, Janessa & Jacob and families, My Girls and I were absolutely stunned to hear about Jan’s sudden passing, and you have our deepest sympathies. My father in law, “ Brad “ (who as you know also passed suddenly and too early) had great respect for Jan as well, from their mutual firefighting days in the London area. I’ll always remember Jan as a close neighbor in town and the “good old days” in the Optimist Club. I do however have to happily, claim credit for “launching” Jan in his part time Limousine driving career, when he drove for us back in the "90"s. He will most certainly be missed.
